The G.H. Menzies Building is named after a professional land surveyor, George Hamilton Menzies (1912-1976) who was a lecturer at the University of Cape Town. He was one of the first three people to graduate as a land surveyor.  He was elected dean of the Engineering and Built Environment Faculty in 1950.

The Menzies building houses the Departments of Geomatics and Electrical Engineering with a cafeteria as well as two computer labs available to all EBE students. In addition, the classrooms and seminar rooms in the building are used across all faculties.
